Win – Win

AOTM – First Blog Posting

As adsonthemove.com begins taking its first few steps, the last thing we would ever want is to have a blog that is formal, stuffy and boring. So, we intend on mixing pleasure with business; mixing fun with fact; mixing statistics with satire. For the serious ones who are reading this, don’t worry, we have no intentions of leading anyone off track. When it counts, we’ll make sure we get the facts right. But who says the facts have to bore everyone to tears, right?

For this kick-off post… We thought we’d share one of the key principles our business is based on. A number of years ago, Stephen Covey wrote a book called “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” I can honestly say that I don’t remember all the 7 habits… okay, so I only remember 1… but the one I remembered was important — “Think Win-Win.” Here’s what Steve said about losing and winning:

“Most of us learn to base our self-worth on comparisons and competition. We think about succeeding in terms of someone else failing–that is, if I win, you lose; or if you win, I lose. Life becomes a zero-sum game. There is only so much pie to go around, and if you get a big piece, there is less for me; it’s not fair, and I’m going to make sure you don’t get anymore.”

This comes from the old school of cut-throat business where “professionals” are willing to do whatever it takes to win. At adsonthemove.com we don’t see life this way and we aren’t willing to win at the expense of making other people losers. In fact, the only way that our business will be successful is if everyone wins. Steve goes on to talk about the mind set that we want to have at adsonthemove.com. He says:

“Win-win sees life as a cooperative arena, not a competitive one. Win-win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. Win-win means agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying. We both get to eat the pie, and it tastes pretty darn good!”

At adsonthemove.com, we are all about winning. We are passionate about it. We want to win! But not at the expense of intentionally making losers out of other people. We will always aim to create wins for everyone involved with our business. There’s enough pie for everyone… We want some pie… but we want to share it with all of you too!
